NewsletterAutumn Term w/c 27th November 2023

~ November 2023 ~

This week’s attendance is 97%. Our class attendance winners, with 100%, was Oak class.

Overall, our school attendance so far, for this academic year, is 95.8%, which is higher than the national average of 95%

Please follow the link to give your views on our school lunches; it would be great to hear your feedback. The survey is open until Wednesday 13th December.

This is the same survey sent via one of the October online newsletters and in an email sent on 23rd November. Due to a low response rate, and the feedback we received that some parents had not seen the link in the newsletter, we have extended the deadline and shared it via other platforms.

We have been working closely with the catering team and are currently trialling a system where we offer the children a choice of two types of vegetables, to make it more likely they will eat at least one of them each day.

Just a reminder that the Christmas performances for Reception and Year 1 take place on Wednesday 6th December. Reception will start at 9.30am and should be finished by 10am. Year 1 will start at 1.45pm and will last for approximately 45 minutes. We have space in the hall for 2 people per child. Please arrive approximately 10-15 minutes ahead of show time to ensure everyone is seated in time for the performances.

The dress rehearsals will be taking place early next week, where we will have some special visitors coming to watch. Year 3 children from Robert Miles Juniors will be coming to watch the Year 1 dress rehearsal and some children from three local pre-schools (Buttercross, Serendipitys and Bingham Day Nursery) will be joining us for the Reception dress rehearsal.

It was lovely to see so many families supporting our Year 2 choir, when they sang on stage at the Bingham Christmas Lights Switch On. The staff were incredibly proud of how confidently the children performed and it was lovely to see how excited they were to be part of such a special occasion in our local community. Thank you to Mrs Attwood and Miss Holt, who run the lunchtime club.

The choir continue to be high demand from some of our local care homes. On Friday 8th December, they will be helping the residents at Beauvale Care Home get into the Christmas spirit, by singing some festive songs.

We are so proud of the children who represented our school at the sports hall event, on Monday. We took part alongside five other schools. The children showed so much enthusiasm for each of the activities and worked well as a team supporting each other. They took part in throwing, running and jumping activities. We definitely have some future Olympians on our hands. Thank you to Mrs Jacques for organising and to Mrs Williams for supporting Mrs Jacques and the children at the event.

This week, some of our Year 2 children visited Notts County, as part of the Super7s, where they were given a free shirt, tickets to a match and a tour of the ground. What a fantastic experience!

Flu vaccinations will take place on Tuesday 5th December.

Please follow this link to complete an online consent form to accept or decline your child’s flu vaccination.

The last week of term (week beginning 11th December) promises to be very exciting, with lots of Christmas themed activities coming up, including parties, library visits, Christmas lunch, Christmas jumper day, carols in the playground and a surprise visit from a very special person (please do not tell the children about this – we are hoping to keep it as a surprise for them). To help cover the cost of the food at the parties (this will only be a small amount as the children will already have had lunch) and a gift from our special visitor, we are kindly asking for a £1 donation per child, which can be given to your child’s teacher or to the school office.

Class Parties:

Christmas Lunch – Wednesday 13th December

The children and staff will share a special lunch together.

Christmas Jumper Day – Friday 15th December

Please do not feel you need to buy anything special for this. If your child does not have any festive clothes, they can come in any top of their choice. They do not need to wear school uniform for the bottom half, but please ensure they wear suitable footwear for going outside at playtimes / lunchtime as normal.

Carols in the Playground - Friday 15th December (2pm)

Come and join us for some festive singing in the playground. There will be the opportunity to purchase some refreshments from The Rosie May Foundation tuk-tuk, from 1.45pm onwards.

You will be able to take your child home once the singing has finished, although we will need to take the children back into school to collect their things. Your child’s teacher will have a register to sign the children out. Any children not collected will be taken back into school for some festive songs / short videos ready to be collected at 3.15pm as usual (or taken to after school club, if they are booked in).

The last day of term is Friday 15th December. The children return to school on Monday 8th January 2024.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you

Mrs Ryan
