NewsletterSpring Term - 23rd February 2024

~ February 2024 ~

Please note the addition of our final INSET day, on Monday 15th April. This is in line with a planned INSET at Robert Miles Juniors and so we hope this helps a little with childcare for that day for parents who have children at both schools.

We have recently had visits from Ashfaq Rahman (Nova Trust CEO), Christabel Shepherd (Nova Trust Director of School Improvement – Primary) and Leah Miller (Nova Trust Deputy Director of School Improvement) who have spent time looking at teaching and learning and talking to children and staff. They have all been extremely impressed with our school community and with the excellent behaviour and attitudes of our children.

We know that for children, parents and staff, it is important to know what the leadership of the school will look like and would like to reassure you that this is being carefully considered. We will communicate any further developments as soon as possible.

Thank you

Mrs Ryan

Interim Headteacher

We are thrilled to say our school kitchen received top marks, with a food hygiene rating of 5, during a recent visit from an EHO (Environmental Health Officer). Congratulations and thank you to Lyndsay and Katie, our amazing catering team for passing the unannounced inspection with flying colours, whilst also making delicious dinners for the children every day!

Please follow this link to our dinner menus.

By now, I am sure most of you will have met Mr Scrimshaw, who was appointed as the new school crossing patrol, after Mr Crouch’s retirement. We welcome Mr Scrimshaw in his new role and are glad of the reassurance he provides to help keep the children safe when crossing the road.

We have had concerns raised by some parents, as well as members of the public, regarding parking and dangerous driving on School Lane. Drop off and pick-up times are extremely busy and so, where possible, we ask parents / carers to avoid driving / parking on School Lane during these peak times, so that we can keep the children safe. Free parking is available at Newgate carpark. We appreciate it is different when accessing Robert Miles Club as the volume of children and parents is minimised at that point.

Thank you for your understanding.

Parents’ Meeting appointments will take place on Tuesday 26th March and Wednesday 27th March, depending on what class your child is in:

Tuesday: Willow, Cedar and Oak.
Wednesday: Maple, Beech and Sycamore.

Everyone will be allocated a 10-minute appointment, based in the school hall. You will have the opportunity to look at your child’s work either side of this appointment.

Please note, if your child is on the Special Needs register, Mrs Marshall will be available to join the parent meeting.

Please return the reply slip by Tuesday 27th February. You will receive a letter back to confirm your appointment day and time by Tuesday 12th March.

If you need another copy of the letter, please speak to the school office who will be able to print one for you.

Thank you.

We are celebrating World Book Week, during the week beginning 4th March. The children will be learning about an author and reading some of the texts written by that author. We will also visit Bingham Library and take part in a class reading challenge.

From Monday 4th March - Sunday 10th March, we will be holding our annual sponsored read. Please encourage your child to read as much as possible during this week and record it on the reading log, which your child will bring home on Friday 1st March. If you are able to help sponsor your child for this, please do. However, this is, of course, optional. Please send any sponsor money to the school office by Monday 18th March.

Friday 8th March: The children will wear their creative hats to school. They will receive a slip of paper to decorate as a character or book theme.

More details will follow soon in a Tapestry post.
