What We've Been Doing - Autumn Term

Friday 9th November

We have had a great start to the new term and really enjoyed learning about Bonfire Night. We have used a paint program to draw firework pictures on the computer and then had to use our phonics to write some ‘noisy’ words to label the pictures, e.g. bang, pop!

In Maths, we have been counting the number of objects in two groups to find the total. We used counters or jottings to help us work out the problems, using the context of different coloured fireworks.

Friday 19th October

We've had an exciting week in willow and maple classes as we have been learning all about dinosaurs! We read a story about a boy called Harry who took a bucketful of dinosaurs to school on his first day. If you pop into our classrooms you will see we've got our own collection of dinosaurs.

In maths we have been focusing on adding one more to a number or a set of objects and in phonics we have been practising our blending skills so we can begin to read with fluency.
We are all becoming expert photographers and can use the iPad to take pictures, even zooming in and out. We have enjoyed looking in the gallery at everyone's pictures. Here are some of the children's photos! Please click on the thumbnails to enlarge the photos - then use the left and right arrow keys to scroll through the gallery.

Friday 12th October

This week we have had lots of fun exploring and experimenting with colour, including mixing paints to make new colours. We have also been learning to continue and create our own colour patterns; talking about what comes next and how we know. If we found it difficult to see what should come next, we would sing the pattern out loud so that we could hear what comes next.

Friday 5th October

In preparation for the arrival of the brick, Willow and Maple classes have been thinking about the meaning of Remembrance Day. We used corks and acrylic paint to print our design onto the bricks. We think it will be really exciting seeing everyone's bricks when they are laid on the new housing estate.

Friday 28th September

As part of our topic ‘All About Me’ we painted self-portraits and talked about what makes us special. We have brought in photos of when we were babies to share with our friends and talk about how we have changed. We had great fun guessing who the photos belonged to!

This week in maths we have been talking and learning about size. We have ordered objects from around the classroom by size.

Friday 21st September

In Maple, we have been busy settling into our new classroom and having fun exploring the different learning areas, such as construction, writing and creative areas. In our outside area, we have been working together to build dens and put on musical shows!
