What We've Been Doing - Autumn Term

Friday 14th December

We created sculptures of mythical creatures using modroc. We carefully chose and mixed paint to create colours and added detail and texture to our sculptures.

Friday 30th November

As part of our topic work we have been making our own mythical creatures from modrock.

Tuesday 27th November

As part of our literacy development we visited the Learning Lounge at Toot Hill school. Ms Maris and Ms Jones introduced us to the illustrations from "Arthur and the Golden Rope" by Joe Todd Stanton. The children then worked in pairs supported by students from Toot Hill to write their own sentences to describe their illustration. The children then independently sequenced their work to tell an alternative story.

Friday 16th November

This week we have been learning about habitats. In art we have drawn our own mythical setting. We used a range of different textures and used graded pencils to create different tones.

On Friday we dressed up for Children in Need Day. We brought in cakes to sell and we enjoyed eating them in the afternoon! Thank you to everyone who sent in and bought cakes.

Friday 9th November

This week we have been learning about our new topic 'Mythical creatures'. We learnt what a myth is and described our own mythical creature and setting. We are really trying hard to use interesting vocabulary in our writing this half term. We shared our holiday homework, to create our own mythical creature, with a buddy. Thank you for helping your child complete this homework task.

Monday 5th November

The children have really enjoyed learning all about the events of the 5th November 1605 and why we have bonfires and fireworks to commemorate the plotter's failed attempt to blow up the House of Lords. Oak class visited the following classes:

Sycamore class to make a bonfire picture by painting their hands.

Beech class to make a bonfire candle.

Cedar class to make a shape poem.

Their first lesson was in Oak class where they make their own fireworks - Catherine wheels and rockets.

Here are the children at the end of the day holding up a piece of their work.

Friday 5th October

This week in our topic lessons we have been pretending to be Samuel Pepys to imagine what it would've been like during the Great Fire of London. We looked at Samuel Pepys' diary extracts and then we wrote our own.

We have also created stunning silhouettes of the Great Fire of London - you might have seen some of these on our classroom windows. Please come in at the end of the day if you would like to see them all.

We had a lots of fun painting poppies on bricks for the new housing development in Bingham. The children are excited about being part of this big project.

Here are a selection of the children's diaries and photos of their painted bricks. Please click on the thumbnails to enlarge the photos - then use the left and right arrow keys to scroll through the gallery.

Friday 14th September

Over the holidays we had a fantastic time researching "The Great Fire of London". We made models, wrote fact sheets, drew pictures, printed information and some of us even visited London to find out more about it! We had a great time sharing our homework with both our friends in Oak as well as Sycamore class.

A huge thank you to everyone who completed their topic homework. It was lovely to see so many different ways of children representing their research.
