Year 1

We went on two fantastic trips this half-term – Tennis and Ice skating! Our children were a brilliant representation of our school, demonstrating good behaviour and excellent manners. They particularly showed resilience and perseverance at ice skating and we are really proud of all of them.

In our DT lessons this half-term we designed, made and evaluated a toy boat. We chose from a range of materials and tools to make our boats. We then tested our boats on the pond and discussed ways that they could be made stronger.

We have had fun in literacy writing stories and setting descriptions using ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ as our stimulus. We spent a week doing a daily weather watch and recording the weather each day on a map of the UK. We also learnt about the four seasons and made descriptive storm poems.

We had an exciting lesson learning about our 5 senses. We used our 5 senses to explore the world around us by feeling and guessing objects, tasting and guessing the flavour of crisps, smelling and guessing what was hidden in a pot, listening to different sounds and spotting things in the classroom from close up pictures.

Special thank you… A huge thank you to all the reading and spelling practise along with homework projects you have done with your children over this year. Year 1 have worked really hard and have particularly impressed us with their most recent phonics quiz outcomes.
