NewsletterSummer Term - 7th June 2024

~ June 2024 ~

After over 20 years teaching, with 10 years at Robert Miles Infants, Mrs Marshall has decided to retire at the end of this school year. She has been an invaluable part of our school and shown true dedication to the children she works with. Whilst we will be sad to say goodbye to Mrs Marshall, we know what a special space our school holds in her heart and are thrilled that she will continue to be a part of our school community as a volunteer.

I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to Mrs Marshall for the commitment and support she has shown both as a teacher and as our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator. Whilst Mrs Marshall is busy planning many adventures as part of her retirement, we are also busy planning for next year and will update parents as soon as possible regarding staffing and classes for September.

Many thanks

Mrs Ryan

It is that time of the year when we invite our parent/carers to take part in a short survey. This survey is carried out by an external company which looks at our feedback and also measures our results against other schools in our Nova family as well as national responses. It is a really good way for us to hear your opinions and we will use the results to help identify our priorities for next year.

We value the positive relationships we have with our families and we are always striving to make the Robert Miles Infants experience even better, so please let us know what you think.

The survey closes 21st June 2024.

As part of developing one of our whole school promises; ‘Caring for our environment’, we recently invited some members of the ‘Street Wise’ team at Rushcliffe Council to come into our school and deliver an assembly encouraging us to be litter heroes – not litter bugs! They spoke to the children about the different items we can recycle and why this is important for our environment.

This has inspired us to think about what we could do to make an impact in the community of Bingham. We will be holding a litter picking event after school on Thursday 13th June from 3:30pm until 4:15pm for anyone that would like to join us as a family.

We will meet outside the front of the school at 3:30pm. Please ensure children attend with an adult (who will be responsible for their child the whole time). We have some litter pickers, bags, jackets and gloves that have kindly been donated by the council to support us with this event but please feel free to bring your own equipment too.

We would love as many families to join us as possible to make a small but valuable impact on our town’s environment.

We have made the very difficult decision to re-home our guinea pigs, Robert and Miles. We have thoroughly enjoyed having them as part of our school community, but found it increasingly difficult to offer them the time and attention they deserve. School is an incredibly busy place and, having conducted research in to how to best care for them, we wanted to make sure they have as much dedicated time and space as possible,

Over the half term, Robert and Miles spent some time with Mrs Attwood and her family, and then spent the rest of the week at a lovely little pre-school Little Toes Day Nursery, in North Muskham. They already have some animals there, including some chickens and ducks, and were thrilled to receive two more. We have decided to make this a permanent move and, as you can see from the photo, are pleased to report back that they have already settled in well to their new home. We hope to get regular updates on how they are doing and will share these with the children.

Our summer Family Dining sessions are coming up soon.

Year 1 will be on Tuesday 25th June.

Reception and Year 2 will be on Tuesday 2nd July.

If you have children in different year groups, and are only able to make one day, please let us know when you book your place and we will ensure you are able to sit with both children at the same time.

For the cost of an adult meal, Aspens, our catering company, charge £3.

It will be sausage and mash on the menu (both meat and vegetarian option available).

The menu will be the same for both days, which may mean a change to the menu advertised on the website.

Please see the office to book your place and pay the £3 for the cost of the adult meal. Places are limited to 1 adult per child.

The final date for booking a place will be Friday 14th June.

Thank you

Jane Stapleton Photography Limited will be will be visiting our school to take class photos and Year 2 leaver photos on Thursday 13th June.

All children will need to be wearing their school uniform for the photographs. If your child's class has Forest Schools that day, please send clothing for them to change into after lunch.

On Tuesday 18th June we will be having our sports day from 1.15pm until 3pm.

The children will take part in a variety of activities in small teams (a mix of Reception/Year 1/Year 2 children)

The events will be scored by the junior school children to give the afternoon a competitive element.

If you are able to help on the day, please let your child's class teacher know. Parent helpers will support the children moving from each activity to the next one and to cheer them on. You will be with your own child’s group so can cheer them on while supporting the team.

Helpers will need to arrive at 1pm, so that Mrs Jacques can share some information about the afternoon.

Spectators can arrive at 1.15pm.

Fingers crossed for sunshine!

On Thursday 4th July, from 2.30pm, parents and carers are invited into school to take part in some craft activities, reading and independent learning sessions. This will also provide an opportunity for your child to share their books with you.

Due to space limitations, please can we ask that only one person attends for each child? If you have children in different classes, you will be able to spend some time in each class.

Please do not worry if you are not able to make it – the staff will ensure they play and do crafts with any children who do not have an adult there.

A visit from Perform

We were very pleased to receive a visit from Perform on Monday 20th May. The children had a wonderful time exploring the theme of Fairytales & Fables and using drama, dance and singing to help develop their confidence, concentration and social skills.

To complement the workshop, there is a free educational app for iPhones and iPads based around the theme of Fairytales & Fables. It contains fun games, creative tasks and videos of the themed songs and dances. Please click here to download it free.
