Welcome back to all our children and families after the Christmas break. It has been lovely to hear what a wonderful Christmas the children have had and to see so many smiley faces. It has been a very calm start of term, despite some very peculiar things happening around school!
In Reception, the children were shocked to find the classroom dishevelled with an empty porridge box and a broken chair! Using the evidence left behind, including a golden hair, they have been able to work out it was Goldilocks! They are now excitedly making plans to find her, by making wanted posters and looking for more clues, as part of their topic on ‘Traditional Tales’.
Our Year 1 children found a mystery suitcase containing, amongst other things, an orange, a map and some postcards. Using these clues, the children had to predict who the suitcase might belong to and were very excited to discover it was Paddington Bear. What a great way to start this term’s topic on ‘Little Explorers’!
Year 2 children received a letter from Ms Allin, our Forest School teacher, asking for their help to find out what has been going on in our school allotment. There was evidence of vegetables which had been taken and nibbled, as well as some fur left behind. It turned out that Peter Rabbit has visited our school, which fits in well with Year 2’s topic on ‘All Creatures Great and Small’.
For more information about what each year group will be learning this term, please see the separate newsletters / curriculum overviews for each year group. They can be found on Tapestry and on the class pages of the school website.
Mrs Ryan and Mrs Marshall are continuing to cover Mrs Adams’ role in her absence, whilst she recovers following an operation.
During the week beginning 22nd January, we are excited to be welcoming Mrs Farnsworth back from maternity, where she will return to work in Beech class, alongside Mrs Dodd. Parents of children in Beech class will receive a letter with more information soon.
In the letter to parents (sent 14th December 2023) regarding our lunch service, it mentioned reviewing the day that family dining is offered, to enable more parents to be able to attend at least once a year.
Our next family dining date is scheduled for Friday 9th February. As this date was published on the school website calendar, for this term the date will remain as planned, as we are aware that some parents have already arranged to attend. However, we are also looking at dates for an additional family dining date, which will be on a different day, to enable more parents to attend. Nearer the time, we will send out more information regarding Friday 9th February, as well as a date for the additional session.
This week’s attendance is 97.18%. Our class attendance winners, with 100%, was Beech class.
Overall, our school attendance so far, for this academic year, is 95.7%, which is higher than the national average of 94.4%.
Maple – 96.15%
Willow – 95.87%
Beech – 100%
Cedar – 96%
Oak – 98.37%

Have a lovely weekend!
Thank you
