Termly Overview - Autumn 2 (details of the focus / key learning for each week).

We will find out how and why different festivals and occasions are celebrated.

We will learn through play based activities, such as:

¨ Creating firework pictures on the computer.
¨ Making Diva Lamps from modelling clay.
¨ Role playing different celebrations with our friends.
¨ Making and writing cards.
¨ Christmas themed arts and crafts.

We will also be learning about the seasons and how our environment changes during winter.

Diwali

We enjoyed learning about Diwali (the festival of light) We found out how and why people celebrate it and made our own diva lamps. We created Mendhi patterns and used chalks to create Rangoli patterns.

Remembrance

We learnt about the importance of Poppies and why people wear them in November. We talked about how the soldiers gave their lives in the wars and had a minutes silence to remember them. We also created some Poppy artwork based on the artwork by Georgia O Keefe.

The Scarecrows Wedding

We absolutely loved finding out about weddings and acting out our own wedding. We designed wedding dresses and cakes and thought about all the things needed for a wedding such as flowers and confetti. We listened to the wedding march and danced to a variety of other music for the after wedding party.

Christmas

We have had a busy 2 weeks in the run up to our Christmas break. We performed the Christmas ABC to our families after learning lots of Christmas songs and words.

We enjoyed a trip to the Library and made a Christmas craft before listening to a Christmas story read by one of the Librarians.

On Christmas party day we played party games, had some delicious food and had a visit from Santa.

We have loved making and decorating gingerbread reindeer as part of our Maths learning. Using weighing scales to compare the ingredients and using the vocabulary heavier and lighter.
