P.E. is on Tuesdays

Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school, which is suitable for both indoor and outdoor PE. Please ensure all kit is labelled, including plimsolls.

Our topic for Spring 1 is 'Traditional Tales'. Please click the links below for more information about the topics.

Termly Overview - Spring 1 (details of the focus / key learning for each week).

We will read and retell lots of traditional stories, such as Goldilocks, The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, The Gingerbread Man and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. As part of our topic, we will learn through lots of exciting activities, such as:

  • Investigating a crime scene - who did it?
  • Exploring the settings for different stories, using our wonderful outdoor environment.
  • Building dens / houses using different materials. Which one is strongest / waterproof? How can we check?
  • Make gingerbread men and investigate if they can swim across the river on their own.
  • Sequence story pictures and use them to retell the stories in their own words.

Important dates:

  • 1st February - Chinese New Year
  • 8th February - Safer Internet Day 2022
  • Last week of term (date tbc) - dress as your favourite fairy-tale character.

We will use the skills and knowledge we are taught in Literacy and Maths to support our learning throughout the curriculum.

The above themes and ideas are starting points for the children’s learning. Where possible, we will plan activities based on the children’s interests and in response to our assessments and observations.


In Reception, we use Tapestry -a secure online learning journal. Tapestry builds a very special record of a child’s experiences, development and learning journey through their early years and primary education. Using photos, videos and diary entries, the teacher along with the child’s parents, ‘weaves’ the story of the child and how they are growing and developing. The Tapestry platform then works seamlessly to enable these memories to be kept as a permanent record of each child’s unique journey. All information held in the platform is stored securely, and can be downloaded and shared as required. Parents are able to view online their child’s progress and how much fun they’re having, whilst also uploading their own comments and media. The communication between staff and parents that Tapestry enables, helps build a shared understanding of how every child can reach their full potential, from birth to the end of primary school.
